Our partner school is a social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) special school in East London. They support children from the age of 7 up until 16, who are unable to access mainstream provision due to either social, emotional, or mental health needs. It is their belief that through the right guidance and support, all their young people can achieve at the very highest level. They have a dedicated team of highly skilled professionals who provide a holistic approach to learning in support of both the academic and the pastoral needs of our young people to provide the right pathways for them to achieve.

The responsibilities of the post are to be performed in accordance with the provisions of the most up to date edition of the School Teachers’ Pay and Conditions document and within the range of teachers’ duties.

You will deliver high-quality, rigorous lessons that drive achievement and inspire a love of learning that extends beyond the classroom. The curriculum is coherent, content rich, and cumulative - empowering the students to achieve their fullest potential. You will be part of a successful, positive team, where professional development is prioritised.

Your role
Your role will include but is not limited to:
  • Recognise that learning takes place outside the school context and provide opportunities to develop pupils’ understanding by relating their learning to real and work-related examples
  • Work with specialist teaching services, medical staff, counsellors and psychologists
  • Develop and adapt conventional teaching methods to meet the individual needs of pupils
  • Use special equipment and facilities, such as audiovisual materials and computers to stimulate interest in learning and aid concentration and understanding
  • Assess children who have long or short-term learning difficulties and work with colleagues to identify individual pupils' special needs
  • Work with the head teacher and governing body to ensure that the requirements of the Equality Act (2010) are met in terms of reasonable adjustments and access arrangements
  • Liaise with other professionals, such as social workers, speech and language therapists, physiotherapists, and educational psychologists
  • Work closely with parents and guardians
  • Attend statutory annual reviews or other related meetings, such as Looked After Child (LAC) reviews, regarding students with an SEN, which may involve reviewing education, health, and care (EHC) plans
  • Attend in-service training

Requirements
  • Must possess QTS
  • To promote the aims and objectives of the school and maintain its philosophy of education
  • Have a valid in-date Enhanced DBS (preferably on the Update Service)
  • Must be available for a trial day for next week
  • ECTs are also welcomed to apply
