Hays Accountancy and Finance are recruiting and working in partnership with a large public sector organisation for the appointment of a Deputy Principal Accountant offering a competitive market leading salary and public benefits.

These roles are finance posts within the Digital Services Division (DSD). The DSD exists to develop and deliver Information and IT Services that will support business areas achieve their objectives effectively and primarily through digital channels.

DSD have a significant budget which includes many complexities in managing large contracts and IT programmes across the Department. Financial management is at the forefront of DSD Governance across delivery and business cases.

The DSD manages approximately £30M of public funds per year. The day-to-day workload demands on current staff have been increasing significantly, and warrants an accountant position, so this is an extremely exciting time to join the team!

This role will act as an integral member of the finance team, you will be working across a range of Finance functions and services including;

Your new role

  1. Provision of high-quality financial information;
  2. Preparation of Annual Reports and Accounts;
  3. Provision of advice, guidance and direction on the management of budgets, the in-year monitoring of expenditure, and the preparation of Estimates
  4. Provide financial governance over specific IT Projects within the Department
  5. Identification & delivery of process improvements
  6. Developing management accounting and financial performance reporting for division
  7. Establishing and maintaining close and effective working relationships
  8. Maintaining an up-to-date and comprehensive understanding of current public expenditure planning, monitoring, control, and accountability systems
  9. Leading, managing, and motivating teams of staff who often need to work to tight deadlines, and on tasks where high-quality information and guidance needs to be produced
  10. Review and assessment of business cases
  11. Managing the resources of your own section
  12. Dealing with internal and external auditors including the Northern Ireland Audit Office.

What you'll need to succeed

  1. Applicants must be fully qualified accountants, having successfully completed the professional examinations, and be a full Member of one of the following bodies:
  1. Chartered Accountants Ireland;
  2. The Institute of Chartered Accountants in Scotland;
  3. The Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales;
  4. The Chartered Institute of Management Accountants;
  5. The Association of Chartered Certified Accountants;
  6. The Chartered Institute of Public Finance and Accountancy
  7. The Institute of Certified Public Accountants in Ireland.

AND Must have one year’s experience gained in the last five years, in a finance related environment.

2. It would be desirable to have previous experience in the following areas;

  1. Previous working experience in a Financial Team
  2. Collaborative working experience with multiple stakeholders
  3. Working to tight deadlines and competing priorities
  4. Establishing good communication and maintaining productive relationships with a wide range of stakeholders and excellent written and oral skills, e.g. report writing, assisting with written submissions.
