Category Manager, Non-for-profit, Hybrid, Property, Maintenance

Here at Hays, we are working with a non-for-profit organisation for the recruitment of a Property Category Manager. This is a permanent position paying up to £48,000 per annum depending on experience. Along with additional benefits. This is a fully hybrid working role with the requirement on site in Bradford being once a month.

You will be reporting into the Senior Procurement Manager and supporting the Procurement team in developing and leading on the strategic sourcing programme for defined categories. You will be taking the lead on the allocated portfolio of categories and ensuring that contracts are compliant. You will be focusing on the Property category within the organisation. Pursuing procurement excellence through the implementation of efficient and effective procurement within key markets. You will be expected to actively engage and manage the marketplace through development of key strategies for supplier and contract management. You will be managing the Category Assistants across a diverse spend portfolio.

Your key responsibilities
  • In your role as Category Manager, you will need to engage with senior level stakeholders to ensure organisational and functional requirements are understood and incorporated into category plans.
  • You will ensure a detailed understanding of the expenditure within the category, the suppliers, the products and services, the value for money and the existing supplier performance.
  • Have a strong understanding of current and future customer needs, constraints, innovation and developing fit for purpose requirement specifications.
  • Managing markets through in depth understanding, influence and development of purchasing strategies to obtain the most economical offers and contracts with suppliers.
  • Ensure compliance with appropriate procurement regulations, other relevant legislation, and internal financial procedures.

Skills we are looking for:
  • UK Procurement Legislation and relevant legislation, e.g. TUPE, Competition Act, Race Relations, Data Protection etc.
  • Proven experience on the property side of category management.
  • Category knowledge within the market managed, which also requires engineering knowledge, product knowledge, manufacturing processes and supply chain.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to build strong collaborative relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Proficient in the use of e-commerce tools, E-tendering, E-auctions.

Experience/Qualifications:
  • Minimum of 5 years experience in direct or indirect procurement
  • Experience in Property Category Management
  • Experience in the public sector would be advantageous.
  • Significant purchasing experience
  • Advanced negotiation experience
  • Experience of project managing complex procurement activities from initial planning to contract award.
  • Member of CIPS or appropriate professional institute
