Maths Teacher Job Description

Position Overview

As a Maths Teacher, you will play a crucial role in shaping young minds and fostering a love for mathematics. Your primary responsibility is to create engaging and effective lessons that challenge and inspire students. You’ll help them acquire essential mathematical knowledge, skills, and understanding while promoting a supportive and stimulatin learning environment.

Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities

1. Teaching and Learning

Plan and prepare effective lessons based on the school’s curriculum and schemes of work.
Deliver engaging lessons that motivate students and improve their attainment.
Supervise support staff assigned to lessons and participate in related recruitment activities.
Organise educational trips and visits to enhance the learning experience.

2. Assessment and Reporting

Lead, monitor, and evaluate assessment and feedback to students.
Follow department monitoring and tracking systems for student attainment, progress, and achievement.
Mark assignments, provide written/verbal feedback, and assess student performance.
Maintain accurate records of attendance, progress, and development.
Use data to inform teaching and learning strategies.

3. School Culture

Promote the academy’s values and ethos by actively contributing to policy development and implementation.
Foster a strong academic community characterised by consistent, orderly behaviour and respectful relationships.
Be proactive in student welfare and support.
Collaborate with colleagues and other professionals within and beyond the school.
Lead or assist with after-school activities, such as curriculum-based clubs.

4. Communication

Communicate effectively with parents as appropriate.
Cooperate with external parties when necessary.
Adhere to agreed-upon communication policies within the school.
Participate in school events like Open Evenings and Parents’ Evenings.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in education with a specialisation in mathematics or equivalent.
Proven experience as a Maths Teacher.
Thorough understanding of best practices in teaching.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Organised and flexible disposition.
Outstanding interpersonal skills.
