South Craven School, supported by South Craven Academy Trust since May 2011, is an oversubscribed 11-18 mixed comprehensive school situated in a semi-rural location on the edge of the Yorkshire Dales with easy access to Leeds, Bradford and Greater Manchester. South Craven achieves strong results at both GCSE and A level and has an excellent vocational programme. It is an innovative and forward-thinking school. An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Mathematics Faculty for an experienced, inspiring, enthusiastic and talented teacher to join the team as an Assistant Head of Mathematics. The faculty is diverse, vibrant and highly successful; consistently performing well in internal and external reviews. We offer a range of qualifications including Entry Level Qualification, GCSE Mathematics, GCSE Statistics, Level 2 Further Mathematics, Level 3 Mathematical Studies, A Level Mathematics and AS Further Mathematics. The faculty is extremely supportive and welcoming, working together to help each other and our students succeed. Feedback from a recent Maths staff voice includes “We are a very supportive team with lots of different specialisms to bounce ideas and find solutions. Everyone is willing to listen and support each other”.

The successful candidate will join the team in September 2024.

We welcome applications from experienced teachers who are keen to develop their career into Faculty Management.

The main duties and responsibilities of this post include:

  • Teaching all aspects of Mathematics (KS3 & KS4)
  • Developing and maintaining up-to-date knowledge of the curriculum
  • Using appropriate teaching and classroom strategies to motivate students and enable their progress
  • Contributing actively to the policies and aspirations of the department and school
  • Working with other Maths Faculty Managers on all aspects of running the department, including developing the curriculum and mastery teaching. The specific management responsibilities for this post are flexible, with the exact nature of the responsibility to be decided later, depending on the successful candidate’s areas of interest and expertise.

The successful candidate should be able to demonstrate:

  • An ability to teach Mathematics
  • The potential to be an outstanding leader
  • Knowledge and understanding of the curriculum and pedagogy
  • Personal ambition and the capacity for hard work
