Your new company
You will be joining a global biopharmaceutical company on the western edge of London with a reputation for innovation to support their drug discovery and development programmes.
The company has well established teams and a track record of bringing both small molecules and biologics to market for a variety of different disease areas. They have invested heavily in their R&D and lab teams and are looking for an experienced protein scientist to join them.
Your new role
You will work in an experienced team, liaising with colleagues on multiple discovery and preclinical drug development programmes to produce, purify and characterise proteins for a range of studies and experiments supporting the development of new small molecules and antibody/biologic drugs.
This is a 12-month contract, working full-time in the company's R&D labs.Major responsibilities will include:
- Expressing high-quality recombinant protein reagents using various cell lines
- Supporting cutting edge research across multiple therapy areas/drug development programmes
- Taking responsibility for managing timelines and delivering on protein production projects
- Troubleshooting technical issues
- Acting as a point of contact for technical queries coming from internal research groups
- Presenting results to collaborators and groups in project update meetings
- Purifying proteins and protein reagents, eg using size exclusion, ion affinity chromatography or AKTA systems
- Protein characterisation
What you'll need to succeed
As well as good communication and team working abilities, you should have:
- A strong technical background in biochemistry, protein science, molecular biology or similar, preferably with an MSc or PhD in a relevant subject (or equivalent experience)
- Track record of recombinant protein production, eg protein classes such as enzymes, structural proteins, cell signalling factors, cell surface receptors etc
- Strong expertise of protein purification techniques (affinity, ion exchange, hydrophobic interaction chromatography, size exclusion chromatography, analytical SEC, UV-Vis spectroscopy, and protein refolding techniques) and ideally experience working with AKTA purification platforms and associated software
- Excellent hands-on skills with protein characterisation techniques, eg SDS-PAGE, Western blot, analytical SEC, UV-Vis spectroscopy or UPLC
- Good understanding of recombinant protein expression systems and the molecular biology involved in generating expression constructs Good understanding of recombinant protein expression systems and the molecular biology involved in generating expression constructs
- Hands-on experience with standard molecular biology techniques
- The ability to work on multiple projects at once would be valuable, as would experience within an industry (pharmaceutical / biotech / synbio) setting
What you'll get in return
As well as a generous pay rate you'll be working within a highly experienced team, provided with opportunities to increase your skills, liaise with senior stakeholders and work in a highly collaborative atmosphere supporting cutting edge drug discovery & development projects
