1:1 Teaching Assistant required for a primary school in Oldham

Are you a passionate and dedicated teaching assistant who wants to make a difference in the lives of young children? Do you have experience supporting pupils with special educational needs (SEND)? If so, we have an exciting opportunity for you at a primary school in Oldham.

We are looking for a 1 to 1 teaching assistant to join a reception class team and provide individualised support to a child with general learning difficulties. You will work closely with the class teacher, the SEND coordinator, and other professionals to ensure that the child’s needs are met and that they can access the curriculum and achieve their potential.

Your new role
As a 1 to 1 teaching assistant, you will:
  • Provide 1 to 1 support to the child in the classroom and in a separate working space as needed
  • Develop a supportive and secure relationship with the child based on respect, inclusivity, and self-esteem
  • Deliver tailored learning activities, tasks, and resources that are aligned with the child’s intervention programme and learning outcomes
  • Monitor and report on the child’s progress, achievements, and challenges to the relevant staff and parents
  • Assist with the planning and preparation of learning materials and equipment
  • Maintain a safe and stimulating learning environment for the child and the whole class
  • Participate in staff meetings, training, and professional development
  • Support the school’s ethos, policies, and procedures

What you'll need to succeed
  • A minimum of NVQ Level 2 or equivalent qualification in supporting teaching and learning
  • Experience in working with children with SEND, preferably in a reception class setting
  • Knowledge of the Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum and the SEND Code of Practice
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organisational skills
  • A positive, flexible, and proactive attitude
  • A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children
