Frontend Developer, Cornwall, Hybrid Working

Your new company

The organisation provides first-line support to a community of 50,000 students, academics, researchers, and professional staff – 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. The support provided includes Estates & Facilities Service Desk, IT Service Desk, Residences Service Desk, NMES Service Desk, Online Services, IT third line technical support, and Business Operations.


Your new role

The role involves supporting the development and operations of the organisations digital platforms, working within Agile frameworks to maintain and improve the websites and the official mobile application. The individual will act as a subject lead for JavaScript development within the team. Responsibilities include writing application interface code using JavaScript/TypeScript and React/TypeScript concepts, supporting a team of developers transition to React, working closely with UI and UX designers, estimating timelines, reviewing application requirements, developing and implementing highly responsive user interface components, troubleshooting software, monitoring and improving front-end performance, documenting application changes, and ensuring that solutions follow best practice ideology and are accessible to all.


What you'll need to succeed

The ideal candidate should have experience in developing websites using JavaScript, TypeScript, React, Redux, NPM, Webpack, and Storybook. They should be knowledgeable in building accessible designs and automated testing. Familiarity with systems such as Jira/ADO, Git/GitLab, and SEO support tools is required. The candidate should hold a relevant degree and have excellent troubleshooting skills. Desirable skills include experience with debugging and performance testing software, project management skills, knowledge of HTML 5 semantic elements, experience with front-end frameworks and design software such as Adobe Photoshop, Sketch or Figma.
