The secondary phase has approximately 180 pupils in each year group from year 7 to year 11. We have planned a broad, balanced and rich curriculum experience that is designed to inspire enthusiasm for learning, ensure achievement and to support pupil well-being and happiness. It enables us to build strong relationships, celebrate diversity, encourage respect and build a sense of community. It provides and acknowledges success for all children, in all aspects of their development and it recognises, encourages and celebrates all types of talent.


As a member of the secondary phase you will be joining a strong and supportive team of staff who are driven to ensure that our pupils achieve the highest possible standards.

The role includes providing the strategic overview, leadership and development of high-quality educational provision associated with ensuring that all learners are challenged to achieve and exceed their potential at Appleton Academy.
You will lead and contribute to an ethos in the Academy where well-being and a positive climate for learning are at the heart of the Academy and each pupil is known, valued and encouraged both educationally and personally.
You will implement strategies to ensure pupils develop a positive attitude to learning and are good attenders to achieve the highest possible outcomes and prepare all our pupils to lead fulfilling lives.
You will provide the strategic leadership of pastoral structures and interventions in relation to behaviour, attendance and punctuality liaising with the DHT SEN and Learning Support where there are issues relating to mental health, medical care, Lead the promotion of high standards of attendance, conduct, punctuality and appearance, supporting colleagues in developing strategies for improving areas that are hindering the achievement of children and young people.

The successful applicant will have
  • Recent successful experience of significant success as a secondary pastoral leader.
  • A proven track record of leading school improvement initiatives related to expectations, behaviour for learning or attendance.
  • Successful and varied teaching experience.
  • Experience of driving and delivering transformational and cultural change.
  • Experience of managing resources effectively.
