Wet Plumber- Commercial Facilities Maintenance- Public Sector- Permanent- Barnsley- £31k

Your new company


A large public sector organisation is looking for a Wet Plumber/Water Hygiene Technician to join their maintenance team on a permanent basis. You will be expected to work independently and as part of a team to operate within a busy commercial estate in Barnsley.
You will be reporting into an estates manager & foreman.
Working hours: 8-4, Monday to Friday. (Occasional on-call and overtime also required)
Own hand tools will be required but technical equipment provided.
The client will require a DBS check before a start.


Your new role


The purpose of this role to carry out the necessary planned preventative maintenance activities in relation to Water Systems, ensuring that the Trust has full compliancy in relation to water against the relevant Legislative, Statutory and HTM requirements.

This will be a hands-on role and will require sound knowledge of the relevant standards, and have the ability to diagnose, identify & resolve any issues.

• To carry out an audit of our water outlets, to ensure that the information that we hold is current and accurate on both paper and electronic systems.
• Ensure a robust asset management system is continually updated.
• Flushing of low use & high count (Legionella and Pseudomonas) outlets
• Temperature monitoring checks to outlets, tanks, circulation and main lines.
• Periodic replacement of shower heads & hoses
• Periodic legionella and pseudomonas sampling and ensure samples are delivered/collected to a laboratory
• Carry out chlorination of pipework/water systems has required.
• Maintain Chlorine Dioxide or other chemical dosing systems.
• Interpret Legionella and Pseudomonas sampling results and carry out actions in line with HTM 04-01, HSG274 following any positive results.
• Testing and servicing thermostatic mixing valves/taps to ensure optimal performance.
• Update specialist maintenance programs tracking remedial actions ensuring full completion.
• Carry out safe isolation of water services when required and be able to communicate with stakeholders.
• Repair and replacement of system components where identified upon failure, maintenance or for descaling/disinfection.
• Installation and removal of sanitaryware items
• Assist 3rd party contractors in cold water storage tank inspections, cleaning and chlorinating.
• Annual drop testing of cold-water storage tanks.
• Testing/checks on RPZ valves
• To ensure the above task are carried out in accordance with the relevant water safety legislation and healthcare guidance and statutory regulations.

What you'll need to succeed


Level 3 qualification in a engineering craft relative to the role

Hold a full valid driving license and carry out driving duties as required.

Previous experience in a public sector maintenance environment
