Hays is currently seeking a Senior Buyer/Category Buyer to join a multinational corporation with a strong presence across the UK. This position is available in the Leeds area. The company is a pioneer in energy management and automation, offering products and solutions for a wide range of applications. These include Automation and Control, Electrical Distribution, Building Management, Critical Power and Cooling Solutions, Electrical Distribution Installation, Systems and Control, Medium Voltage Distribution and Energy Automation, and Solar. Your new role:
The mission of this job role is to build and maintain strong relationships with senior stakeholders, understanding their needs and proposing changes to secure projects that reduce spend and deliver productivity targets.
The role involves driving compliance with global strategies and supplier agreements and ensuring indirect procurement compliance in the country. The job role also includes strategic sourcing and negotiation, conducting business reviews with strategic contracts, and managing supplier breach of contract escalations.
The role is responsible for defining the country’s way of buying and establishing a triage model. The mission is to create a more efficient, compliant, and strategic procurement process.

What you’ll need to succeed:
You should be able to identify project needs and deliver contractual arrangements to meet productivity targets. You’ll need to be adept at selecting suppliers, initiating contracts, and negotiating commercial and contractual terms.
Managing contracts, conducting business reviews, and resolving supplier performance issues will be a significant part of your role. You’ll also need to be familiar with procurement tools and strategies and be able to define the country’s purchasing approach.
Your competencies should include achieving sustainable results, managing contracts and suppliers, influencing, and convincing others, and focusing on the customer. You should also have skills in procurement negotiations, cost and value analysis, category strategy, and data management.
A background in indirect procurement categories, and experience as a project leader. A degree in procurement business management is desirable, and as well as professional knowledge such as CIPS qualification.
Your soft skills are highly important for this organisation and should include being straightforward, a multitasker, having a positive attitude, good interpersonal skills, and an ability to work with both stakeholders and those at warehouse level. These are the keys to success in this role.

What you’ll get in return:
This exciting position is paying between £40,000 to £45,000 based on experience. This role offers an excellent work life balance including hybrid working, generous annual leave + bank holidays, flexibility, training, and development opportunities. There will be some travel between Leeds and Scarbrough sites initially and this opportunity is an FTC with a view to permanent of which the company are keen to make happen.
