Accounts Payable Clerk South Wales

Hays have the pleasure of working with a market-leading private sector company based within the Construction and Environmental industries. This successful company based in Usk, South Wales is on the lookout for an experienced Accounts Payable/Purchase Ledger clerk to join their Accounts Payable team as Accounts Payable Clerk on a hybrid (1 day from home, 4 days in office) basis.

Your new role

Your new role will see you fulfil the following duties and responsibilities as Accounts Payable Clerk:

  • Review invoices and bills received by the company, ensuring that these invoices comply with financial policies and procedures.
  • Collaborate with department heads or directly follow up with clients to verify and authorise payments.
  • Handle day-to-day transactions related to accounts payable.
  • Verify, classify, and record data related to accounts payable.
  • Reconcile the accounts payable ledger.
  • Ensure payments and bills are accurately accounted for and posted.
  • Investigate discrepancies by reconciling vendor accounts and monthly vendor statements.
  • Facilitating payment of invoices by sending reminders and contacting clients.
  • Understanding expense accounts and cost centres.
  • Familiarity with compliance issues related to accounts payable.
  • Assist in month-end close procedures.
  • Process purchase invoices.


What you'll need to succeed

To succeed within this role and this organisation, you will need:

  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Analytical mindset (ability to identify discrepancies etc).
  • Self-driven.
  • Aptitude for learning.
  • AAT Level 2+ desirable.
  • Understanding of double-entry bookkeeping.
  • Proficiency with accounting software on either Quickbooks, SAP, Oracle or Microsoft Excel.
  • Effective communication.
  • Time Management.
  • Knowledge of Tax Regulations.
