A&E Band 6 Liaison Mental Health Nurse Job, Manchester, £24-£38 per hour, full time/part-time, PAYE/UMBRELLA

Hays Healthcare are actively recruiting Mental Health Liaison Practitioners to work in our Clients A&E Liaison Team in Manchester (Days, Nights & Weekend shifts available).

Your new role

The Mental Health Liaison service offers a comprehensive range of mental health specialities within one multidisciplinary team, so that all patients with a suspected or actual mental health problem can be assessed, treated, signposted, or referred to appropriately, regardless of age, presenting complaint, time of presentation or severity.

The service puts an emphasis on robust and detailed biopsychosocial assessment and safe and effective discharge from A&E and on the facilitation of early but effective discharge from the wards within the acute trust hospital. The service operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

What you'll need to succeed

  • Co-ordinate and prioritise the day-to-day clinical workload relating to referrals received by the liaison team.
  • Undertake timely mental health assessments with service users of all ages presenting with mental health problems to the accident and emergency department and within the general hospital.
  • Be a source of specialist knowledge and advice to professionals at all levels within the general hospital around care and management of service users presenting with primary and secondary mental health needs.
  • Be responsible for the development of care plans with service users and other relevant stakeholders. If appropriate, this will include autonomous discharge. As part of this role, it is expected that the post holder will liaise and communicate with appropriate statutory and non-statutory agencies or care providers when developing care plans.
  • Must have A&E experience
  • Assess individuals with a range of complex needs, such as organic and functional illness. This would include dementia and a range of illnesses associated with people from later life. In addition, there will be a requirement to assess individuals with learning disabilities. As well as CAMHS for the younger service users we see.
