Radioactive Substance Scientist | Scotland
Position Overview
We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Radioactive Substance Scientist to join our team in Scotland. As a scientist specialising in radioactive materials, you will play a crucial role in ensuring compliance with regulations and maintaining safety standards related to radioactive substances. Your work will contribute to protecting the environment and public health.
Responsibilities
- Radioactive Material Handling and Analysis :
- Safely handle and analyse radioactive materials, including isotopes and waste.
- Conduct experiments, measurements, and assessments to characterise and quantify radioactivity levels.
- Regulatory Compliance :
- Stay informed about relevant legislation, including the Environmental Authorisations (Scotland) Regulations 2018 (EASR) .
- Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements for radioactive substances activities.
- Risk Assessment and Mitigation :
- Assess potential risks associated with radioactive materials.
- Develop and implement strategies to mitigate risks and prevent contamination.
- Instrumentation and Monitoring :
- Operate and maintain radiation detection equipment.
- Monitor radiation levels in laboratories, storage facilities, and field sites.
- Collaboration and Reporting :
- Collaborate with other scientists, researchers, and regulatory bodies.
- Prepare reports, documentation, and data submissions as required.
- Emergency Response :
- Participate in emergency response protocols related to radioactive incidents.
- Provide expertise during emergencies to minimise impact.
Qualifications
- Educational Background : A degree in Nuclear Science, Physics, Chemistry, or a related field.
- Experience : Prior experience in handling radioactive materials and compliance with regulations.
- Skills :
- Proficiency in radiation measurement techniques.
- Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
- Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
- Knowledge of relevant safety protocols and emergency procedures.
