Scientific Officer: Microbiology, Cambridge, £40-45k

Our client has designed pioneering technologies that will inactivate microbial resistance and therefore resurrect antimicrobial therapies, impacting one of the world’s biggest clinical problems by both preventing antibiotic resistant infections and treating already occurring ones. The technology is applicable to all antibiotic classes, all known resistance mechanisms, and all bacteria.

Your new role

You will play an essential role in the team to be responsible for the developing/testing/screening of the company’s Symbiotic activity against various BSL2 pathogenic bacterial isolates following company standard operating procedures (SOPs).

Designing and generating own experiments with minimal supervision whilst keeping up-to-date records and reports

What you'll need to succeed

  • A PhD degree in Microbiology/Molecular Biology or other relevant scientific subject is essential and ideally with some industrial experience.
  • Experience with microbiome work/ has previously worked on a microbiome project.
  • Experience working with BSL2 pathogenic bacteria and knowledge of good laboratory practice.
  • Experience with fermentation, PCR, genomic sequencing, and general molecular biological recombinant DNA technology skills.
  • Experience with bioinformatics and genome analyses is desirable.
  • Be organised, capable of completing programmes and tasks carefully and accurately and have excellent written and personal communication skills.
  • MUST be able to work independently, designing own experiments with minimal supervision as well as be part of the team.
