Your new role
To be responsible for the continued development and provision of a
comprehensive management information service to the various levels of staff
within the directorate, and other directorates, external agencies and
central government departments as required. This will include the regular
ongoing servicing of information needs, the supply of data to meet statutory
requirements and the improvement of data quality through liaison with operational
staff.

2.1. To develop and prepare management reports on Local Services performance
indicators.
2.2. To attend performance related meetings to present data as required.
2.3. To be responsible for the interpretation of information requests using appropriate
information systems; spreadsheets, word processing applications, the analysis of
their feasibility and the development of output reports for internal and external
recipients using a variety of software tools (e.g. Excel; Crystal; Northgate and
AS400) with agreed timescales. This will include regular and ad-hoc reporting
which will require a high level of accuracy.
2.4. To respond as appropriate to information and analysis requests to meet business
requirements to agreed strategies, policies and standards.
2.5. To provide advice, guidance and assistance as appropriate to managers and staff
on the analysis of need and on the availability and delivery of data. This may
require the provision of training to appropriate members of staff on the production
and publication of management information.
2.6. To ensure where possible that information held on the Northgate M3 and other
management systems is accurate and up to date, especially in relation to key data
types used in performance indicators for Local Services. This will involve the
regular monitoring/reporting of key data fields and liaison with local operational
and support staff.
2.7. To be responsible for the extraction, collation, validation and submission of
information to meet statutory requirements within agreed timescales on behalf of
the directorate. This will involve regular contact with staff from other directorates,
partner agencies and other sections within the directorate.
2.8. To create and maintain appropriate audit trails for all data and any agreed
assumptions or calculations that are used in Statutory Returns and regular
reporting.
2.9. To document all processes and procedures relating to the production of standard
reports and maintain records as necessary.
2.10. To provide data, assistance and advice to local operational and administrative staff
in providing management information to meet local needs.
2.11. To work with staff from within the directorate and external agencies to ensure that
information problems or external enquiries are co-ordinated and resolved with the
minimum of disruption.
2.12. To work with staff from other teams to ensure there is appropriate communication
to facilitate an effective and quality service, ensuring at all times high standards of
output within given deadlines.
2.13. To participate in particular projects or working groups within the directorate as
required. These will usually have a clear link to the information development or
performance management agenda.
2.14. To assist with the ongoing management and development of data management
systems, including liaison with external providers, Service and staff
training.
2.15. To develop and maintain a knowledge of directorate and policies and
incorporate these into allocated tasks to promote good practice (e.g. data
protection, virus protection, security etc).
2.16. To develop a customer focussed approach to the delivery of Information Services.
2.17. To maintain an understanding of the external information and statutory
environment and its potential impact on Local Services and the City Council.
2.18. To develop and maintain an understanding of the tools and software products and
services required to provide an information management service.
2.19. To contribute to, participate in and attend appropriate training courses as may be
required.
2.20. To carry out other duties as may be required and which ensure the above
responsibilities are met.
2.21. Day to day decisions as they relate to duties undertaken.
2.22. Assisting system development.
2.23. Development of system training modules.

What you'll need to succeed
Good Excel skills
Experience pulling data from different databases below and reporting on it. Pull out trends, or data that doesn’t look right. Pass this info onto managers so they can present on it etc.
