Associate Director / Director Pharmaceutical Data Science

Expert data scientist roles, with advanced machine learning, for global pharmaceutical company in Cambridge

Is a leading global pharmaceutical company with a long history of innovation and an excellent reputation and working atmosphere, growing their data science team in the Cambridge area.

Your new role
Will involve leading efforts on data science projects working with a wide range of data from multiple sources, primarily focused on clinical trials, as well as earlier stage drug discovery data.
For more senior candidates you will be leading a team, as well as a portfolio of projects, providing strategic input and analysis to optimise the company's drug discovery and development efforts.
You will be involved in building and managing strategic partnerships, either with internal stakeholders, academia or industry partners, and acting as a representative of the company at major conferences.

As these positions are central to the company's growth plans, you will be working with colleagues from multiple departments across several countries.

What you'll need to succeed 
As well as excellent organisational, team working and problem solving skills, you should have:

  • A demonstrated track record of working with clinical or drug discovery/development data, ideally from large scale clinical trials;
  • A degree (preferably MSc or PhD) in a subject such as computer science, data science, statistics, bioinformatics or similar;
  • An excellent understanding, gained through hands-on experience, of algorithm development and optimisation;
  • Experience of applying computational solutions to large-scale or complex biological problems;
  • Excellent machine learning skills, using a variety of methods such as convolutional neural nets, random forest or Gaussian processes;
  • Very strong quantitative / statistical skills;
  • Experience in data mining and visualisation;
  • Excellent hands-on programming / software development skills using languages such as R, Shiny, Python, Perl or Jupyter, as well as familiarity with database coding with SQL / NoSQL;
  • Project leadership experience;
  • A deep interest in technical problem solving; and
  • A background in developing and applying strategic plans to data science within the pharmaceutical industry.
