One of the UKs largest specialist insurers is seeking a part-qualified actuary to join their dynamic capital team. The team is relatively small so you will have the chance to be involved in a variety of areas, and you will report directly into the Head of Capital.

The company are flexible in terms of the level of the applicant. They are happy to consider someone with minimal capital exposure as well as someone who had a few years under their belt and would therefore be looking for the next step up. The responsibilities can be adapted to suit the level of the incumbent.

Your new role
For this exciting role, you’ll be a member of a small team responsible for maintaining and running the Groups capital model. You will assist the Head of Capital in providing support to the Board and the CRO in matters relating to capital requirements, as well as maintaining the data sets and processes necessary to operate the model.

The level of requirements for the role will depend to an extent on the experience of the person who holds it and will develop as he or she develops experience

The role has a number of responsibilities, but in summary the main ones are data collection and testing, maintain and running calibration models, updating data and parameterising the internal model, and running the model and sense checking outputs.

In addition, you will contribute to solving the problems arising from running and changing the model, and key responsibility in testing the model, ensure processes around the internal model are well maintained and operate appropriately, ensure good version control of the output, and exhaustively testing model output, including investigating model code.

Finally, you will maintain good quality documentation, and running and documenting the model for other uses such as reinsurance renewals and ORSA

You’ll also be the point of contact for internal stakeholders, including the Finance team, IT, and he CRO

What you'll need to succeed
To be considered for the exciting opportunity, you will be a part-qualified actuarial student currently working in the UK and studying towards your fellowship. Some previous capital experience is required. As a minimum you would need Lloyd's reporting experience and some Igloo.

The team uses a variety of languages including, R, SQL and VBA. Experience in some of these would be advantageous, although if you have experience in SAS you should be able to pick up R relatively quickly.

It goes without saying that you’ll need good written and face to face communication skills, and be able to explain complex matters to people with some knowledge

For this exciting opportunity, a base salary from £35k up to £50k is on offer along with excellent company benefits. For someone who has a greater level of actuarial / capital experience, there is some flexibility to go beyond £50k.
