Programme Management Officer / London / Three-month contract / £250/day rate

A local borough based in Central London is looking to recruit a Programme Management Officer to work within the Adults Social Care Transformation Team working as part of a dedicated project team to provide programme management support.

Your new role

The PMO will be responsible for;

  • To work closely with the programme manager and stakeholders from the People’s Priority Service to ensure that high quality project management and governance support is provided, which will enable the Council’s ambitions for Adult Social Care to be realised.
  • To provide accurate reporting to the Priority Board by coordinating and supporting the creation of Priority reports as instructed by the Programme Manager.
  • Establish and maintain comprehensive programme governance and ensure delivery whilst managing and collating Programme risks and issues, developing milestone reports and maintain the document control for the shared folders used by the department.
  • To assist with reporting of project progress through the established project steering group and highlight reports.
  • To liaise with Project Managers to ensure project reporting is delivered to the required standards and time-frames.
  • To ensure monthly reports are issued on time, including the preparation of Priority Board papers.
  • To support the management team to ensure an integrated Priority plan is created and maintained on a secured document management system, complying with version control.
  • To ensure Priority documentation is appropriately categorised and recorded in a central electronic library, supported by hard copy documentation where appropriate.
  • To coordinate and monitor the lessons learnt process.
  • To manage, support and ensure the reporting life cycle occurs on time, and that all information is collated correctly for each report adhering to quality and timescale for deliverables.
  • To manage and administer the running of board meetings by taking minutes and identifying actions agreed.
  • To co-ordinate and update the risks and issues log, monitoring their progress and closing old and raising new ones as required.
  • To provide direction to project teams, including assignment of individual responsibilities, tasks and technical functions.

What you'll need to succeed

My client is looking for the following skills and experience;

  • Experience of problem solving and in a comparable environment.
  • Possess a professional persuasive manner, with the ability to influence at all levels.
  • Experience of using Microsoft packages.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the use of performance measures to ensure continuous improvement. Understanding of the demands and needs of operational managers when their services are under review and need to show continuous improvement.
  • Knowledge of the main issues that currently impact on Local Government and particularly Adult’s Services.
  • Excellent organisational skills - Able to plan and manage own time, balancing competing demands to ensure objectives and deadlines are met.
  • Self-motivated and with the ability to motivate others to meet individual and collective goals.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including presentation skills and an ability to engage effectively with a range of stakeholders, both within and outside the council.
  • Effective interpersonal skills with the ability to negotiate solutions in an often-challenging environment.
  • The ability to forward plan and the confidence to act on own initiative.
  • The ability to establish clear and deliverable actions for the whole Priority.
  • The skill to analyse issues and break down problems to ensure effective solutions are found and implemented. stakeholders, both within and outside the council.
