Your new company

Our client is a global, science-led biopharmaceutical company that focuses on the discovery, development and commercialisation of prescription medicines. Operating in over 100 countries, their innovative medicines are used by millions of patients worldwide. Due to high business demands, our client is looking for an experienced Senior Research Scientist.

Your new job
Main Duties and Responsibilities
As a Senior Research Scientist, you’ll play a pivotal role in channelling our clients’ scientific capabilities to make a positive impact on changing patients’ lives. You will work within Discovery Sciences, which focuses on scientific advances in established and emerging medicine formats and drug discovery technologies across therapeutic areas

Specific duties and major responsibilities include the following:
Discovery Biology
• Lab-based scientist utilizing expertise in protein degradation biology for cellular assay development; independently designing, developing and validating assays for implementation in drug discovery projects, while incorporating the views of others
• Innovate in the field of cellular assay development and cellular mechanism-of-action
• Maintain an awareness of current developments in the literature and contribute to the continuous capability enhancement process by identifying opportunities in the workplace where improvements can be made
• May lead one or more aspects of scientific discipline within each team

What you’ll need to succeed
Essential Requirements
• Ph.D. in Biology, Pharmacology, Cell biology or a related discipline or a BSc/MSc degree with significant relevant experience, preferably in the pharmaceutical or biotechnology industry
• Strong experience in molecular and cellular biology techniques applied to development of physiologically relevant cellular assays together with expertise in the design, development and validation of cellular assays for compound profiling and screening applications
• Documented expertise in quantitative assessments of intracellular protein levels, preferably using multiple techniques and including protein turnover
• A practical understanding of a wide range of cellular assay methods and technologies (e.g., fluorescence, luminescence, target engagement techniques, plate-based automation) as applied to a range of biological targets
• Excellent communication skills and an ability to operate effectively in a multi-disciplinary research environment
• First-rate decision-making skills, coupled with tenacity to see decisions through, even in situations of ambiguity

Desirable Requirements
• Expertise in protein degradation biology; ideally E3 ligases and with proven experience on development of model systems and assays capable of identifying therapeutic molecules that exploit endogenous cellular mechanisms of protein degradation
• Strong experience in mechanistic pharmacology, and ideally an understanding of how to explore poly-pharmacology principles and complex pharmacology studies to understand compound mechanism of action
• Expertise in a range of cell biology techniques, to include cloning, transfection methods, gene expression knock-down (RNAi or other) and endogenous gene tagging
• Combined strong experience in analytical chemistry and cellular biology techniques
• Excellent problem-solving skills, strong delivery focus and communication skills
• Good publication records in peer-reviewed journals and track record of identifying and adopting scientific and technical advances
• Excellent team working and networking skills with experience of interacting effectively across interfaces of discipline, culture, expertise and between academia and industry
