JOB TITLE: Technical Services - Senior Technical Superintendent SALARY: £56,000 - £65,000

Our client is delighted to advise that they are growing their Technical Services Team within the Asset Management department to deliver world class operational excellence.

As a result, they are offering a new and exciting opportunity for a Senior Technical Superintendent. Responsible to the Head of Technical Services, the Senior Technical Superintendent will support the Head of Technical Services to provide comprehensive technical management in support of the day to day operation of the Small Vessel Fleet.

The post holder will be responsible for the management & performance of the Technical Services small vessels team. The role will focus on vessel availability, reliability, budget performance, continuous improvement, defect management, root cause analysis, preventive maintenance and the provision of the timetabled service. Maintaining close ties with the Service Delivery team in managing the day to day operations of the vessels in the areas of responsibility.

Your new role
  • In conjunction with the Head of Technical Services, you will lead and manage the Technical Services Technical Superintendents team to achieve the standards and objectives set in line with the Asset Management Strategy.
  • Overseeing the Technical performance of the vessels, ensuring that they are operated safely, economically and efficiently maintained to deliver a reliable and punctual service against timetable
  • Liaise with and maintain a strong working relationship with the Marine, HSQE and Service Delivery teams.
  • Responsible for the resolution of technical issues affecting operations ensuring safe and efficient resolution & minimum time to repair vessels.
  • Responsible for the oversight and operational management of the running repairs budget. Ensuring all vessels running repairs costs are in line with approved budgets and reported monthly with justification on both positive and negative variances.
  • Ensure good management processes and procedures are in place to ensure high performance of a safe, reliable and efficient fleet of vessels.
  • Ensuring these processes and procedures are compliant. Maintain a programme of continuous improvement to ensure process and procedures are relevant and up to date.
  • Ensure that all ships are adequately maintained, and certification remains valid and in date.
  • In conjunction with the Head of Technical Services identify opportunities for development and continuous improvement across all areas of the Technical Services team.
  • Promoting the companies culture through our values that define the sort of organisation we are, what we stand for and how we will all behave when carrying out our operations.
  • Support the production of technical budgets for vessels and control technical costs in line with the agreed running repairs budget.
  • Work closely with the vessels to prevent break downs and minimise the effect to the vessel and the larger network.
  • Work closely with Asset Management, other internal departments to promote and resolve technical related issues on the fleet including the production/support of management reports & meeting attendance.
  • Carry out annual technical inspections for relevant vessels.


What you'll need to succeed

  • Hold an Unlimited Second Engineers Certificate or equivalent to degree level.
  • Professional Management qualification would be advantageous.
  • Experience within maritime industry - maritime professional, capable of exercising sound judgement in both proactive and reactive, vessel operation management scenarios.
  • Have experience of working as a Technical Superintendent in a similar post (preferably with Passenger and Vehicle Ferries) demonstrating experience of prioritisation, decision-making and producing results in a high-pressure environment.
  • Be able to demonstrate experience of Project Management & Implementation and an awareness of change management. Showing experience in planning, resource management and reporting.
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft packages, mobile technology and asset management systems. Able to demonstrate strong budget management experience with the ability to employ cost control techniques.
