As part of this transforming organisation, the Information Technology department is now looking for an experienced hands on Technical Architect who has the passion and drive to lead on the delivery of technical innovation as well as developing and maintaining the organisation’s Enterprise Architecture and TDA function.

Job Purpose

As an experienced Technical Architect, you will provide guidance across and beyond the Corporation and City of London Police to support all aspects of ICT, solutions and services, driving the delivery of the organisations’ transformation. As a visionary and creative Technical Architect, you will take responsibility for developing the reference architecture, the technology vision, roadmaps, standards and solutions.

You will be passionate about improving the IT landscape and consolidating and aligning architecture and technology across the organisation working with a variety of senior business stakeholders and technical teams. You will ensure solution designs meets the business requirements and delivers business benefit as well as being technically proficient across a wide range of technologies. As part of this vision you will be critical in creating a high performing team to help make this vision come to fruition.

The Person

Equally credible with both leadership and technical teams, you will bring to the role extensive, relevant knowledge and experience of IT best practice including:
  • Experience in an ITIL based environment.
  • Leadership experience- You will develop and support your staff and colleagues and collaboratively work with other senior leaders within the wider IT department.
  • In-depth knowledge of multiple technologies such as cloud, storage, virtualisation, Microsoft technologies, networks (LAN/WAN/MPLS), mobile, and security (end point, through to externally facing websites, firewall and gateway infrastructure.)
  • You have the expertise in designing and delivering complex systems including discovering and analysing requirements, understanding the context, identifying and assessing alternative solutions, selecting technologies and advising on configuration.
  • You have the ability to lead on the development and implementation of technical strategies and roadmaps in a complex organisation.
  • You have experience of developing and leading a multi-disciplined Technical Design Authority function.
  • You will be technically proficient across a wide range of technologies
  • Ideally SC cleared, or willing to go through the clearance process.
  • Stakeholder management at all levels with internal and external partners with the proven experience of developing strong relationships across organisation boundaries.
  • Experience or qualifications within TOGAF or equivalent framework is advantageous.

  • Self-motivated and dynamic individual who is able to challenge and influence others as well as supporting colleagues and staff to be the best they can be
  • High level, proven inter-personal and communication skills are essential, as is the ability to liaise at a senior level internally and externally.
  • Ability to communicate complicated technical concepts in language that is accessible and relevant to stakeholders across the Corporation and City of London Police.
  • You will create a professional direction, using a coaching approach to develop and support colleagues
