The Role

University College London are looking to appoint a Senior Technical Lead within the Information Services Division. As a Senior member of the team, you will be responsible for the delivery of technical project delivery across a range of ISD capital projects, approximately £30m per annum expenditure. You will be play a role in team development and ensuring the quality of technical leadership.

ISD is UCL’s Information Services Division and has over 500 staff, which covers all central IT services. It is split into 8 departments that provide IT functions for local support, operations, project delivery, governance and security.

Job Responsibilities

As Senior Technical Lead, you will report directly into the Team Manager, and play a critical role in technical project delivery, as well as overseeing a small team of team of Technical Leads both permanent and contract staff. This is made up of a range of technical subject matter experts who are allocated to relevant projects based on alignment with the technologies being delivered.

Exposure to any of the below technologies would be particularly relevant:
  • Application development environments, Application Orchestration, Hybrid integration
  • Access management tools (Active Directory, OKTA, OneLogin)
  • Data (IBM DataStage, WS02, API Manager)

You will oversee key projects, forecasting demand and capacity requirements based on the portfolio of projects. You will also support the team as an escalation point and provide feedback and development to staff. You will work alongside Architecture teams, validating high level design from the Solution Architecture function and deciding on the most effective solutions to meet business and architectural requirements.

As an ambassador of change, you will have a continuous improvement ethos, and will seek to work with the wider university and suppliers to develop services to enable success from technology investments.

Core Skills
  • Extensive experience in delivering a range of technical IT projects across a range of technologies and disciplines within a large enterprise environment.
  • Advanced knowledge and experience of solution design including the design of multi-tier solutions, data structures, security, user interfaces and web services
  • Experience or qualifications with TOGAF or equivalent framework is advantageous
  • An awareness of current and emerging technologies and services

  • You will be a self-motivated and dynamic, and able to engage, challenge and influence others
  • A track record of developing and maintaining collaborative working relationships across IT and the wider institution
  • An ability to explain technical issues to non-specialists, and to write clear technical reports and other formal documentation for solution deployments and evaluations is essential.
