A reputable London based public sector governmental body is looking for an experienced Business Support Officer to join their team based in Westminster. Your new role

  • Lead on various corporate priority pieces of work for the Directorate, e.g. business planning
  • Manage day to day functions to ensure business plans and strategies stay on track and we facilitate delivery of the organisations strategic objectives efficiently and effectively.
  • Monitor and manage performance against objectives for the Directorate, supporting risk management and facilitating good governance in the Directorate.
  • Supporting senior managers with staff engagement activities.
  • Lead on the development of thematic areas of work for Directorates.
  • Develop procedures and processes as necessary to support effective and efficient working across teams in the areas of work including but not restricted to, learning and development, staff wellbeing and workforce planning.


What you'll need to succeed

Personal attributes, skills and preferred experience:

  • You will build sound, high level knowledge of the business as well as be adaptable, calm under pressure, able to handle a range of issues with diplomacy, discretion and a can-do attitude.
  • You will be able to identify and handle potential risks, knowing when to tackle issues directly and when to escalate, whilst at the same time planning to deliver long and medium term goals for the Directorate.
  • You will be motivated by achieving high-quality outcomes and will have great soft skills and be able to build excellent collaborative relationships across the Department.
  • You will have the ability to tactfully, yet assertively, challenge (often senior) individuals when needed, and explain the Director’s priorities and requirements in a manner that helps build relationships and trust.

Previous experience as a Business Manager or similar role would be an advantage:

  • Ability to demonstrate good project management skills, prepare reports and carry out analysis for senior management, ensuring the Directorate’s work aligns to Departmental objectives.
  • Flexible, self-motivated, highly organised and able to prioritise and coordinate activity across the Directorate and wider department.
  • Have an eye for detail and an ability to work at pace, to calmly ensure effective delivery even during the busiest times, thinking on their feet to deal with unexpected events while also maintaining momentum on long term priorities.
  • Have a strategic awareness of wider departmental, political and economic contexts, being able to recognise how these could impact on their area of work and bring this to bear in how work is planned and delivered.
  • Able to build effective working relationships at pace, be a strong communicator, and able to work well with senior leaders.
  • Have excellent IT and Microsoft skills.


What you'll get in return

A 3 month contract working within the biggest EU Exit program for 3 months. You will be exposed to senior members within the Civil Service
