Senior TV Product Development Manager

Product development and management new products marketing revenue/margin performance

Product Development and Management roles manage the development on new products, the marketing of existing products and services over their life cycle and the revenue/margin performance of those products. 

This role will work closely with a number of other functions to document requirements, support the prioritisation of requirements and lead/drive activity across a broad set of partners and stakeholders to deliver the final product. a wide degree of technical and design experience is required and a wide degree of creativity and latitude is expected. The role is focused on specifically on Product Development vs in-live management or Commercial management and the Product Development Manager will work closely with the Digital Entertainment Product Management tea to ensure new features are handed over for the successful 'in-life' operation of the product. 

Principal Responsibilities

  • Understand and translate business objectives into compelling products and new features
  • Work collaboratively with a variety of teams to define UX specifications, prioritise features, build consensus and coordinate the release of new features and product enhancements
  • Create clear and concise materials or oversee the handoff of those generated by an outside vendor to the Tech team (requirement documents, use cases, user stories, flow, prototypes/concepts, experience docs)
  • Facilitate communication throughout the product development process between a variety of internal teams
  • Maintain a constant requirements backlog and assign requirements to key roadmap deliveries 
  • Integrate usability studies, research and market analysis into product requirements to ensure products satisfy user needs
  • Understand and implement regulatory and accessibility requirements across the product suite
  • Maintain awareness of advancements in the TV product space, new and emerging features, competitive movements and upcoming launches
  • Act as a product evangelist within the company

  • You will have very strong product development or product management experience with experience of TV and/or Web/Online platforms that support video streaming

Essential knowledge, experience and skills

  • Solid understanding of digital devices and products including TV and/or web/online
  • A background in TV (either through a platform or broadcast) is essential, you will have experience in understanding the capabilities and limitations of developing an experience on a TV platform and a grasp of end to end video delivery.
  • You will have a good understanding of video and/or broadcast delivery quality; understand content requirements, it's life cycle and how it should be organised and promoted on a pay TV platform
  • You will be able to demonstrate awareness of usability requirements on a TV platform, and have experience in implementing usability best practise
  • You will be able to demonstrate awareness of regulatory requirements on a TV platform
  • A good balance of technical knowledge and user experience is preferred. Whilst not directly responsible for implementing UX, this role is expected to drive the UX team to make the right decisions and deliver an optimal experience. 
  • Ideally (but not critical) you will have experience in developing set top box software and have a deep understanding of the technologies and capabilities on these type of consumer platforms is key that you have experience of developing. 
  • You will bring a strong working knowledge of end to end cross platform delivery and be a logical, confident decision maker with an organised, logical, structured thinking process. To be successful, you will have the ability to direct activity accordingly and show excellent people management skills. Its important that you have experience in identifying customer needs and be able to translate this in to the definition and development of new products and features. 

Required qualifications/experience

  • You will have very strong product development or product management experience within the TV space, and quickly earn respect with peers through demonstration of your understanding in this space. 
  • Degree (or equivalent) qualified - preferably in a technology field - or with equivalent industry experience (Pay TV or broadcast is a must)
  • Substantial professional experience in Pay TV, broadcast or other relevant TV space
  • Strong understanding of emerging technologies and how they are changing the way people consume television.
