Director of Accelerated Construction

High profile role leading introduction of innovative construction techniques to address housing shortage

About the HCA
The Government has put housing at the heart of its commitments for this Parliament. It has set two major aims: to deliver a significant increase in supply and to increase the opportunities for people who aspire to own their home. To help achieve these aims, the Government has committed £20 billion of gross capital investment for this parliament. This includes the biggest affordable house-building programme in a generation and unprecedented initiatives to open up the market. The HCA is at the forefront of delivering these ambitions and is undergoing significant change as a result. We are now recruiting for a Director of Accelerated Construction to help make these ambitions a reality. This is a leadership role that offers unique challenge and reward, delivering a programme that will change the national house building industry for generations.

About the Role
In October 2016, the Prime Minister and Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government committed £2bn to deliver a new, high profile programme - Accelerated Construction - designed to help deliver a step change in the number of new homes built in England.
This is an ambitious and innovative programme which aims to deliver up to 15,000 housing starts on public sector land by 2020. This will necessitate the greater use of advanced construction methods such as offsite manufacturing as well as the creation of innovative JV partnerships and commercial contracts to enable housing development. The post-holder will also be critical in driving greater levels of diversity within house building market - including through the forming of partnerships with SME’s, custom builders and contractors. The post holder will become a champion for Accelerated Construction across the HCA, wider Government and the construction industry as a whole.

About You
This is one of the most important roles in the UK house-building industry and Government. Consequently, we need an outstanding individual. You will need strong commercial skills, with a demonstrable track record of designing commercial contracts / JV partnerships which have realised successful development outcomes. You will also possess the interpersonal skills needed to deliver upon these contracts and forge sustainable strategic partnerships. You will have a strong knowledge and understanding of the construction industry, to be able to influence and promote housing growth from a position of strength. You will need to demonstrate effective, and inspirational, leadership skills – both in terms of leading teams and influencing a range of stakeholders to drive behavioural change within industry and promote new, and innovative, methods of delivery. The post-holder will also be highly outcome oriented, with a relentless focus on programme execution and successful delivery.
